Bayswater councillors are working to get the right solution for this important conservation area site on the corner of Porchester Rd and Westbourne Park Villas, which houses the children's library as well as the postwar church and its community spaces.
Dolphin Square Foundation's plan for a tall bulky affordable-housing development with church and library underneath has proved highly unpopular, provoking many criticisms and questions from residents and planning officers alike. It goes to planning committee on November 20th for a 'steer' from the politicians. “The Baptist Church really is a great community asset-- servicing worship communities from right across London, as well as delivering social programmes to our neighbourhood. I understand the desire to rebuild the site but, as always, the needs of Bayswater residents come first,” says Cllr Brian Connell. “I'm still very concerned by the scale of the building: more than 40 new flats without any parking provision is a huge burden for the community. Residents in the adjoining streets are very concerned about all the outstanding issues of design, parking and a new children's library.
