Conservatives have ruled out the Lib Dem Mansion Tax. David Cameron has made it clear that he regards a mansion tax as a tax on aspiration, but for Vince Cable, it still lies high on the Lib Dem agenda! “A mansion tax is still very much on the agenda – it is a very good idea”, he told the Telegraph last year.
Bayswater Conservatives totally disagree with this Lib Dem tax. We know that the elderly and many cash strapped families in Bayswater would be hit hard by this Lib Dem tax. We do not believe that we should be a country where if you work hard, if you save, and if you buy yourself a house, that the government comes after you with a massive, unfair tax. George Osborne said “It’s not a Mansion Tax, it’s a Homes tax and the party of home ownership will have no truck with it” This Lib Dem tax may mean that Bayswater residents could be forced to sell their properties to pay for this Lib Dem cash levy.
Bayswater councilor Cllr Michael Brahams said “This Lib Dem attack on Bayswater residents will backfire. Even Denis Healy in the seventies rejected a Mansion Tax. Is Vince Cable more socialist than even Denis Healy?”
