Westminster Conservatives: Delivering what matters
Since 2010 Westminster Conservatives have been working tirelessly to ensure that Westminster remains the place where people aspire to live, work, visit and invest. Your Conservative Council has delivered clean safe streets, value for money and assistance for those in need, to help everyone achieve their full potential.
We have delivered
1The lowest Council tax in the country alongside satisfaction levels of 85%, the highest ever recorded.
2 Maintained two rubbish collections and one recycling collection each week unlike many Labour authorities.
3 Helped residents’ money go further by offering residents cheap energy switching opportunities that can save them around £114 per year and many discounted or free sports and leisure activities. A “shop window for our country”.
4 2,882 new homes built including 836 affordable units, greatly exceeding the Mayor of London’s target.
5 New libraries and sports facilities being built and others refurbished. No children’s centres, sports facilities or public conveniences closed.
6 A 60% reduction in serious youth violence through our Your Choice gangs programme
7 All but one of our secondary schools rated outstanding, the other rated good.
8 Four new Community hubs for the over 50s running over 100 activities a week.
9 Instrumental in delivering the most successful Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Para-Olympics ever and launched the Westminster Mile.
10 A state of the art dementia centre
11 Over 500 young unemployed people placed in jobs with 95% still in their post after 6 months since 2012.
12 Over 2,000 apprenticeships created since 2012.
Your Conservative run Westminster City Council is always working to improve our city. We now look forward to building on the tremendous achievements of the last 4 years and to leading the field in innovation in Local Government services to improve the quality of life for all who make Westminster their home, place of work or tourist destination. Supporting our businesses to grow, investing in our infrastructure and ensuring that the economic pre-eminence of Westminster is sustained and built upon are all key components to making Westminster the City we all desire. Value for money will always be at the heart of our ethos whilst delivering excellent public services and supporting our most vulnerable residents. We are committed to continuing our innovative approach to the tough financial environment and ensuring tax payer’s money goes further.
1To freeze Council Tax for at least the next two years and ensure a low Council Tax for the next four years.
2 To continue to operate a Council Tax benefit scheme that ensures our poorest residents do not pay any Council Tax.
3 To make our neighbourhoods safer through active management of our public spaces and streets.
4 To make our streets even cleaner by increasing the number of bins, clearing away street clutter and repairing and resurfacing streets across our city. We will continue to deliver a first class rubbish and recycling service for our residents.
5 To further improve our environment by working to improve air quality, improve our parks and green spaces. We will plant new trees in our streets, support improved doorstep recycling initiatives, implement our cycling strategy and produce and implement a strategy to encourage walking.
6 To provide 1,000 jobs for local, young and unemployed people, including 300 new jobs for residents in our renewal areas. We will help to get 1,000 residents in our housing renewal areas into work and place new apprentices into roles.
7 To open a new £12m library in Marylebone and a new library in Victoria.
8 To introduce a basements policy and strengthen the construction code to ensure a more responsible approach to basement development.
9 To continue our housing renewal programme by investing £560m and building 1,000 new homes.
10 To develop residential care so that our vulnerable and elderly residents do not need to move out of the city and can stay on the same site, even when their case needs escalate.
11 To continue to tackle the social isolation many senior citizens feel, through initiatives such as Silver Sunday.
12 To ensure that all children leaving school after GCSEs, including care leavers, move into eduction, training or employment.
