The problem of delivery riders continues and concerns are that it will worsen over summer.

The problem of delivery riders continues and concerns are that it will worsen over summer.

A meeting and patrol was held with Councillors, Council Officers, the Police, Baker Street Quarter staff and Deliveroo. Other delivery companies declined to attend.

We raised issues of abuse and threats to local people, security staff, and council officers, the harassment of women and girls, and dangerous cycling on pavements and pedestrian crossings. We asked Deliveroo to look at ways they need to change and improve their business model, a key cause of the problems. Varying degrees of disciplinary intervention are taken by Deliveroo dependent on the type of issues and whether the riders are repeatedly breaching rules.

Deliveroo operate an engagement rather than an enforcement strategy. So they would not participate in enforcement operations.

Everyone present agreed to build relationships by increasing engagement and arranging events for local bike marking and safety-sharing recommendations.

There have also been reports of drug dealing and aggressive shoplifting by delivery riders. We will continue to press for the police to enforce the Traffic Act, despite their reluctance.
