In Marylebone, there is a misunderstanding regarding who has the ultimate say about what takes place in Paddington Street Gardens.
Most people believe that it is the Council who has responsibility for this area, and are unaware of the Church’s role.
The land in Paddington Street Gardens is in fact under 'Church control' because it is a closed consecrated place of burial.
Therefore, any proposals for open-spaces must be appropriate, respectful and decent; recognising those laid to rest beneath the soil, from just beneath the surface to a depth of 14 metres.
The organisers of the petition campaigning for an area to be designated for dogs to be let off their leads in Paddington Street Gardens have been advised that the Council will be liaising with the Church.
