Swaddle slams Labour over inaction on illegal lets

Illegal short-term lets are out of control across Westminster. Noise, rubbish, late-night disturbances, and a carousel of strangers are eroding our community.

Paul Swaddle, Leader of the Westminster Conservative Group, has called out Labour-led Westminster Council for failing to act on illegal short-term lets:

"The people of Westminster have told us the same thing week in, week out: they feel their communities are being hollowed out and nothing is being done.

I pressed Labour on what steps they're taking to enforce the 90-day limit, clamp down on illegal lets and put residents back at the centre of local decision-making.

Labour’s response? Dodging, ducking, and blame-gaming.

They can avoid the question all they like, the message from residents is clear: do your job, enforce the rules, and stop illegal short-term lets from damaging our communities."

Conservatives will continue standing up for the people of Westminster when Labour won’t because our people deserve better than a Council that looks the other way.

Cllr Tim Barnes explains that just two Westminster wards, West End and St James's, account for 26% of all "small crime" across the whole of London, which he says is exactly why some regulation of venues is necessary. He again pointed to the Mayor's record on transport as the bigger barrier to a good night out, saying Sadiq Khan "keeps cutting the night buses and won't bring in a late-night tube service on Thursdays."
