The current one way scheme on Warwick Way, with Al Fresco dining, was only permitted under a temporary traffic order allowed under emergency Covid -19 regulations introduced during the pandemic.
After a legal challenge to the council, these temporary measures will be removed at the end of March.
Two recent consultations found that over 80% of local people would like to see a permanent scheme introduced to allow wider pavements with tree planting and an improved public realm, and no ugly plastic barriers.
There will be a formal ‘Traffic Management Order’ consultation on such a scheme soon, with works hopefully starting on the improvements in the Autumn of this year. An artist’s impression of a potential permanent scheme is shown above.
