After lobbying by Conservative councillors and residents, the Council is in the process of installing around 220 parking bays for both dockless bike and e-scooter parking across the city.
The three dockless bike operators in Westminster - Lime, Forest and Tier - have agreed to fund these bays and to fine any cyclist that fails to use them.
Over the summer, the operators started using their geofencing technology in the Covent Garden area to stop bikes being left indiscriminately in the main pedestrian thoroughfares.
St James’s ward councillor Tim Mitchell said: "The initial plan is for around 40 of these new bays in St James’s ward. The Council hoped that these would be sufficient to meet the demand for parking but this picture of the junction of Duke Street and King Street shows that there is often not enough space."
If you think any of the new bays are badly located or can think of other locations for bays, please contact us. Any bikes parked outside the designated bays and causing an obstruction should continue to be reported to the Council
