Residents living near to Marylebone Station remain concerned about the continuing pollution from the diesel trains operating into and out of the station.
Regent's Park Councillors are working with Chiltern Railways to support and encourage the push to decarbonise and renew their fleet of trains especially the Class 68’s which are currently the most pollutant. The good news is these trains have been modified to use Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel offering significant reduction in net greenhouse emissions replacing diesel, and so, reducing the overall carbon emissions, by up to 90%.
As Zach Bailey, Chiltern Railways Stakeholder Manager said, ‘We are passionate about making Chiltern Railways a net zero organisation. This is one of a series of steps we are taking to reduce our carbon emissions and improve the environment for our local residents at Marylebone Station. Chiltern Railways are in discussion with the Department for Transport about replacing our current diesel fleet, with a preference to introduce battery powered trains by the end of the decade’.
