Pedicabs

Our MP Nickie Aiken has secured Government support for her Pedicabs (London) Bill that will give Transport for London the powers to regulate pedicabs to make sure they are safe, that their fares are reasonable and consistent, and that rogue operators can no longer present a threat to residents and businesses in London.

In the meantime, Council officers continue their joint operations with the police to stop pedicabs using loudspeakers which plague residents' late at night. Areas targeted included Leicester Square, Covent Garden (especially around theatres), Soho and Chinatown. Five pedicab riders were found to be playing amplified music at a level likely to be an annoyance and were reported for prosecution. In early April, three pedicab riders were prosecuted and fined a total of £1,273 in fines, costs, and victim surcharges.
